Failed Sneak Attack (奇襲失敗, Kishū Shippai) is the 84th chapter of the Gantz manga, written and illustrated by Hiroya Oku.

We see portraits of all the participants of the Buddhist Temple Alien Mission. In the top row we see Rice, Sei Sakuraoka, Musō Tokugawa and Kiyoshi Miyafuji. The next row show us Shunichi Ike and Kei Kurono. The middle of the page gives us the chapter title and number and gives us a portrait of Masaru Kato. The next row shows us Sadayo Suzumura, Masanobu Hojo, Akitoshi Okazaki and Kei Kishimoto. The last row show us JJ, Yuta Kondo, Tomashiro Jiro and Juzo Togo.

Synopsis

The chapter begins with Juzo Togo stabbing the Kannon in the side before expressing frustration at not being able to deal a killing blow. The Kannon then fires its lasers at him, but Juzo is able to dodge and trap the alien in a headlock. The Kannon begins choking and thrashing around, causing Juzo to smile, but it soon brings its laser device up to Juzo's head, shocking him. He avoids a lethal shot initially, releasing the alien before he can be shot through the head by its laser, but the laser then begins spinning in circles while pointing towards the ground, cutting off Juzo's legs before he can escape. The Kannon then turns to him before shooting him through the back of his head with its laser, killing him instantly.

It then switches to Masaru Kato, who is being pinned against a wall by his throat by one of the Kannon's Guards. There is a brief transition where all of the characters who were killed in the arc are shown, including Kei Kishimoto, Masanobu Hojo and Sadayo Suzumura(the latter laying on top of the former), JJ and the recently deceased Juzo Togo, before going back to Masaru, where he uses the immense strength provided by the Gantz suit to rip off the aliens arms and lethally uppercut it.

He is then seen running past the Grumpy Alien's corpse where he also spots Juzo, dead, and expresses shock at discovering him. The chapter ends with him running back to Kei Kurono with much greater urgency.
