Gantz Wiki:Character Template (Human) Goru Suzuki was a politician who participated in the Onion Alien Mission.

Appearance

An elderly male, Suzuki appears to be in his late 60's to early 70's. He is a pale skin male with average height and average built. He has short white hair which is constantly slicked back but no facial hair. He is only seen wearing hospital clothing for patients (due to his condition before his arrival at the Tokyo room) with no shoes or extra accessories.

Personality

A calm and apparently patient man he seems to believe in a higher power or some sort of after life as belies to be in heaven upon being summoned by Gantz. Composed (shown as the only smiling face in the room) and firm in his beliefs, he chooses to return home instead of gaining money. He also appears as a grateful person who welcomes pain as proof of life and health.

Background

As stated by himself, he was a politician (later confirmed by Kurono) who was battling with cancer in the hospital. It is later implied that he has a close relationship with his wife and son who are waiting for him back at home.

Plot

Goro's head exploding.

Onion Alien Mission Arc

At the start of the Onion Alien Mission, he originally assumed that he had died and gone to heaven which he expressed (seemingly repeatedly) despite Inamori's protest and Kurono's disbelief. When a naked Kishimoto appears, he blushes like most men in the room before she is taken to the backroom by Hatanaka who orders them not to follow, an order he obeys. After being sent out to the mission area, despite having heard Nishi's proposition, he refuses the opportunity to win a large sum of money and instead decides to go home. He leaves the others and he tries to walk to a nearby train station, when he steps on a piece of glass, cutting his foot. He realizes that he is actually still alive and is overjoyed. Wondering how surprised his family would be about this. However, as he gets closer to the edge of the game area, he starts hearing a strange noise which he mistakes for a cell phone, wondering what it was he steps out of bounds causing his head to explode killing him instantly.

Kishimoto hdiscovers his corpse while walking home alone the same route he took, she then gets Kurono from who she just parted and seeing he corpse he figures out what the ringing in their heads meant, thus narrowly avoiding the same fate he pulls Kishimoto away from him.

Anime-Manga Differences

  • In the anime, the scene of Kishimoto and Kurono finding his corpse is absent, since they never split off from Kato and the other hunters during the onion kid chase.
  • He never mentions his family's names in the anime. Instead, he has a flashback of being bribed by a fellow cabinet member, and resolves to start over again once he gets home.
  • When he steps on the glass in the manga, it goes right into his foot and he never removes it, whilst in the anime it only pricks his foot without going all the way in.

Trivia

  • Goro Suzuki is the first person to die due to the explosive device planted in each player's head.
  • Despite being the first player to die on the mission, he is the only one who never becomes aware of the existence of aliens.
  • He is the first member to die in the Onion Alien Mission.
